The study plan includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>95 ECTS<\/strong> of compulsory courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>10 ECTS<\/strong> of elective activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>15 ECTS<\/strong> dedicated to the Master\u2019s thesis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The full list of courses is available in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/onlineservices.polimi.it\/manifesti\/manifesti\/controller\/extra\/RegolamentoPublic.do\">Manifesto degli Studi<\/a> <\/strong>webpage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme adopts a structured educational approach, primarily based on <strong>lecture-based teaching (DT)<\/strong> and <strong>interactive teaching (DI)<\/strong>, but also enriched by <strong>laboratory activities (DL)<\/strong> and <strong>project-based activities (DP)<\/strong>. Two types of thesis are available:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Experimental thesis <\/strong>(<strong>dissertation<\/strong>): this type of thesis involves a <strong>research or industrial project<\/strong>, carried out either at Politecnico, in a company or at a foreign university or research center. The work typically includes a comprehensive literature review, the development of a research model or framework, an experimental work or data collection and the generation of innovative or applied results. The thesis is evaluated by the <strong>supervisor<\/strong>, an external examiner (<strong>discussant<\/strong>) and the <strong>graduation committee<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thesis <\/strong>(\u201c<strong>tesina<\/strong>\u201d):this type of thesis typically involves a literature review, and either the study of an industrial case or a data analysis based on existing models. The student works with a supervisor, and no external examiner is involved.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Both types of thesis can be carried out individually or in pairs, although the tesina is typically completed individually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case of a thesis carried out in a company, a <strong>Politecnico di Milano faculty member<\/strong> is assigned as academic supervisor. The supervisor agrees with the student on the topic to be developed within the company context and on the type of work to be carried out (experimental thesis or thesis\/tesina). In addition, a <strong>company tutor<\/strong> must be identified, who will act as the student\u2019s point of contact within the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case of a thesis carried out at a <strong>foreign university<\/strong>, a Politecnico di Milano faculty member is assigned as academic supervisor, together with a faculty member at the host institution (typically the hosting professor), who acts as tutor (and co-supervisor). The thesis topic may be proposed either by the Politecnico supervisor or by the student, based on existing contacts with the foreign university. In the latter case, it is the student\u2019s responsibility to identify a Politecnico faculty member working on related topics and to agree on their availability to formally coordinate the collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Thesis templates<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>School of Industrial and Information Engineering<\/strong> provides official templates for the preparation of the Master\u2019s thesis:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Classic format<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Article format<\/strong>: used as an alternative to the classic format, it follows the typical structure of a scientific article (approximately 30 pages). <strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong> the use of this format must be agreed with the academic supervisor and must be \u043f\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0443\u0441\u043c\u043e\u0442\u0440\u0435\u043d\u043e as an option by the Study Programme.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Executive Summary<\/strong>: mandatory complementary summary to be prepared in the case of an experimental thesis or dissertation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The templates are available in both <strong>LaTeX <\/strong>(also on the Overleaf platform) and <strong>MS Word<\/strong> formats and can be downloaded from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ingindinf.polimi.it\/en\/students\/lessons-and-exams\/bachelors-and-masters-degree-exams\/thesis-format-templates\">School\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Information about available thesis projects is generally communicated to students through the WeBeep page of the supervisor\u2019s course, although specific opportunities may also be announced directly during lectures.
